This course is designed to utilize the nursing process to focus on the childbearing and childrearing stages of the family unit. This introductory course focuses on the role of the nurse in meeting the physiological, psychosocial, cultural and developmental needs of the family during antepartal, intrapartal, postpartal, infant and childhood. Course content includes aspects of growth and development, health teaching, health promotion and prevention. Nutrition and pharmacology are integrated. Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to provide and manage care of the childbearing and childrearing family in a variety of settings. Prerequisites: As required by program.
