This course is designed to acquaint the student with the role as a dental hygienist and provide the background information and knowledge necessary to function in subsequent clinical dental hygiene courses. Basic principles of intraoral and extraoral examinations, periodontal examination, assessment of plaque and calculus, instrumentation, instrument design, and fundamental skills necessary to perform subsequent clinical dental hygiene courses are taught.Prerequisite: Admission to the Dental Hygiene program.
