Prerequisite: (R) (W) (M) Corequisite: MATH 1513 or APPM 1223 3 CREDITS This course is intended to teach the principles of physics, chemistry and microbiology necessary for the understanding and application of respiratory care. Topics include temperature scales and conversion; the nature and behavior of gases; the gas laws; diffusion; solubility and flow of gases and liquids; basic principles of fluid dynamics; basic atomic structure; formation of ions; valence calculation; theory of pH and acid-base balance; classification and identification of micro-organisms; microbial growth and transmission; common infectious respiratory diseases.
