Beginning in Fall 08, students who enroll at NPCC with an ACT Reading score of 12-14 or COMPASS scores of 51-64 must take Reading Improvement I. This course deals with reading comprehension, vocabulary, and reading rate. This is a highly individualized course structured around the needs of each student. Offered in a laboratory setting. Students must have a score of 11.0 in comprehension to exit the course. Pre-requisite: An ACT of 12 or better or a COMPASS score of 51 within the three years preceding enrollment. Students who cannot meet the pre-requisite scores will be required to take a reading tutorial through Adult Basic Education prior to enrolling in Reading Improvement I. Fall, Spring, Summer.
