Fundamentals of organic chemistry, orbital and structural theory, aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons, alkyl halides, structural isomerism, introduction to functional groups, nomenclature, stereochemistry, reaction mechanisms, resonance theory, and spectroscopy. Writing assignments, as appropriate to the discipline, are part of the course. Prerequisite: Chemistry 203, or Consent of Department Chairperson. 4 lecture and 4 lab hours per week. 6 credit hours.
