This course has been designed keeping both the Illinois Professional Content Standards for Teaching (Mathematics) content necessary to prepare students to be middle school mathematics and science teachers. A wide range of topics across number of theory and measurement will give the students a grasp of the depth and breadth of mathematics outside of the traditional course structure. Problem solving, estimation, measurements, and construction of simple theories of numbers will be treated with and without the use of technology. Writing assignments, as appropriate to the discipline, are part of the course. Prerequisite: Math 126, or Math 140, or Math 143. 200 minutes per week. 4 credit hours.
