Focusing on meeting the basic needs of mothers and children and their families, the student integrates previous learning relating to the concepts of holism, nursing practice, nursing process, multicultural society and communication. Preventive, supportive and therapeutic care is learned in class, lab and clinical settings. Students are expected to demonstrate professional growth and to function within the provisions of the Illinois Nursing Act of 1987. Theoretical concepts and clinical nursing skills contained in this course are consistent with the skills standards developed for the State of Illinois. Writing assignments, as appropriate to the discipline, are part of the course. Prerequisite: Grade of C or better in Nursing 151 and Nursing 152 and Biology 226. 2 lecture, 1 lab, and 3 clinical hours per week. 5 credit hours.
