Examines the difference between behavior based on what society says is appropriate in order to be masculine or feminine. Examines the question of what forces in society are most influential in determining the place of men and women with special emphasis on power. Examines how this influence works in the process of socialization and core social institutions, including marriage and family, education, religion, the economy, and politics. Writing assignments, as appropriate to the discipline, are part of the course. Prerequisite: Placement test, or English 100 with a C or better, or Consent of Department Chairperson. 150 minutes per week. 3 credit hours.
