Introduces a basic understanding of wildland fire and the strategies and tactics involved during suppression operations. Includes fire line safety, emphasizing the wildland fire orders and watch out situations. Students receive training qualifying them as Certified Wildland Firefighters under the Incident Command System, recognized by the National Wildfire Coordinating Group. Covers fire behavior, fire weather, fuel types, safety equipment and guidelines, incident size up, determining resource needs, aircraft identification and capabilities, direct vs. indirect attach, burn-out, backfiring, and map reading.
