Prerequisite: None This course allows the student to understand the philosophical basis of corrections, as well as identifying crucial elements in the handling of offenders for reducing their law-violating behavior and increasing public safety. Each component of the correctional system from arrest to case disposition, prisons, jails and detention centers, through probation and intermediate sanctions are covered. Various correctional systems, correction functions, institutional clients and their rights, along with reintegration systems and the future of corrections are explored.
