3 credits Introduction to the materials, methods, and techniques of pottery design and construction. Emphasis on basic hand building skills, simple glaze application and an understanding of the fundamental pottery processes. Development of basic hand-eye-mind coordination for good form making. Introductory exploration of historical, cultural, modern trends and ideology. Students should plan on at least one term of this course and/or Ceramics: Wheel Throwing ART 251 before advancing to Ceramics: Intermediate ART 253. Repeatable.
