4 credits A survey of the historical development of the Western world over a period of several hundred years including the Italian Renaissance, expansion to and colonization of the western hemisphere, the Reformation era, the Enlightenment and Scientific Revolution, early Industrial Revolution, finishing with the French Revolution. This course will provide an overview of diverse peoples, nationalities, creation of, and changes in religious/value systems, scientific theories, social structures, economies, and political thought and institutions. Main themes of Western societies will be synthesized and considered in light of our modern world. May be taken out of sequence.
