4 credits This course addresses the terminology, biomechanical principles of movement, joint structure and function of the lower extremity. Discussion includes muscle origin, insertion, action, nerve, innervation and basic exercise techniques for these areas. In addition, students learn and practice muscle strength testing, stretching, joint goniometry and range of motion exercise (straight plane and PNF) for these areas. This course also covers the kinematics components of normal gait and atypical gait patterns, use of assistive devices and gait training as a physical therapy intervention.
