4 credits Prerequisite: AIL 201 or consent of the instructor. This course is the second course of a three-term sequence to ensure students achieve competency in Chinuk Wawa at the second year college level. Competency is defined by benchmarks set by the Tribes, by the state of Oregon and in accordance with Oregon?s SB 690 of 2001, and by Lane?s language standards. Students will (1) become proficient in the sound system of Chinuk Wawa to be able to (2) converse in a variety of common everyday settings using vocabulary and structures presented in class. Emphasis is placed on daily speaking, writing, reading and listening of Chinuk Wawa and learning about the cultures of the people who spoke and still speak the language.
