3 credits Prerequisite: Three credits of MTH 020 or equivalent courses with a grade of "C-" or better, or pass a placement test through the Testing Office. Prerequisite grades or test scores must have been completed within the past four terms. If you have taken a higher level math course than this and passed the course with a "C-" or higher, you may not use this course for your degree/certificate requirements. Basic skills in fractions, decimals, percents and ratios will be assumed. MTH 025 is a course in the application of basic mathematics to everyday situations. General categories include mathematics for personal finance and investment, mathematics applied to personal health, and mathematics applied to household and yard. Topics include applications involving budget and retirement, simple and compound interest, payroll, markup and discounts, sales tax, food preparation, measurement systems, and recreation. The course will focus on group work and investigations, with assessment to include projects and portfolios. Scientific calculator required.
