This course will introduce the student to the field of Human Services. Topics covered will include an examination of current themes and approaches in human services, the nature and meaning of human service work and worker identity, primary roles and intervention activities utilized, major issues and types of problems encountered, and the basic knowledge, attitudes, values and skills characteristic of human service work. Also emphasized will be an understanding of the different community resource systems and social service agencies, and how to make appropriate referrals. Prerequisite: ENG 22 with a grade of C or better or equivalent.
