An exploration of the theory and practice of music for prospective elementary school teachers. Specifically, this course examines the elements of music-time, pitch, performance media, musical expression and form-and how these elements interact within the musical experience. These elements are explored and applied through singing and the playing of percussion instruments, ukulele, autoharp, piano, and other classroom instruments; listening; movement; notation of music; performing from notation; and analysis of music both aurally and from musical scores. The creative use of musical elements as a means of understanding music is an integral component of this course. (Required of UH Manoa elementary education majors.)
