This course is a survey of the history of humankind and focuses on governmental, economic, social, religious, intellectual and esthetic activities from the earliest historical period until the middle of the 17th century. The survey includes earliest civilizations in Africa, the Orient and the West as well as development around the world during the ancient times, the Middle Ages and the early modern period. Emphasis is given to early civilizations in the Middle East, India, China and Europe. In Europe, the survey extends beyond the Middle Ages to cover the Age of Exploration, the Renaissance and the Reformation. 3 hours lecture
