Preventive dentistry within the community at local, state and federal levels is the focus of this course. Epidemiology, assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of community programs are explored with emphasis on fluoridation, sealant placement, home care instruction, diet and regular dental exams in group setting. Students present programs to elementary schools, mental health facilities, convalescent homes, maternal and child care facilities and other groups within the community. They also extern at several private dental offices for a broader understanding of their role as a dental team member and in the dental community at large. 3 hours lecture, 3 hours clinical.
