2.00 credits (2.00 lab) This course will provide students with opportunity to carry out undergraduate research related to chemistry, biochemistry and biotechnology applications. They will learn the research methods and processes, write a literature review evaluating information and its sources critically, and use the information effectively to write research proposal on a chosen project approved by the advisor. Students will carry out the proposed project under the supervision of the advisor in the laboratory, learning to do detailed laboratory work accurately with precision and incorporating good laboratory practices, documentation procedures and regulatory affairs standards. They will develop analytical and data-management skills and gain exposure to concepts such as validity, reliability, measurement, and bias. Upon completion of the project, students will write a short thesis and defend their theses, exploring the possibilities of publishing the results. Prerequisites: BIOT 2320 and CHEM 2420. Prerequisite/Corequisites: BIOT 2720 and BIOL 2500 or CHEM 2620 and instructor approval.
