5.00 credits (5.00 lec) This course is a continuation of Chinese 1000. Students will further develop standard pronunciation, the four tones, basic grammatical patterns and practical vocabulary; have a better and deeper understanding of the language and the culture; be able to recognize and write about 600 Chinese characters, write short essays, and have conversations with native Chinese speakers about yourself, your family, and other everyday topics; and be ready for intermediate study in Chinese. Prerequisites: CHIN 1000; placement into READ 0200 or placement into ESOL 0052 or completion of READ 0100 or ESOL 0042 with faculty recommendation into ESOL 0052; placement into ENGL 1110 or completion of ENGL 0900 or ESOL 0051.
