3.00 credits (3.00 lec) This course explores the principles and processes of geology with an emphasis on the study of the Earth's structures, materials (internal and external) and plate tectonics. Topics covered in the course include igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks. Special attention is paid to the dramatic role of volcanoes, earthquakes, erosion and landslides in the shaping of our planet. Field trips are an optional part of the course. Fulfills MnTC Goal Area 3. Prerequisites: Placement into READ 1300 or completion of READ 0200 or ESOL 0052; placement into ENGL 1110 or completion of ENGL 0900 or ESOL 0051.
