3.00 credits (3.00 lec) This course provides theory and supervised practice in group counseling. Topics include types and purposes of groups, group process, forming a group, group stages and stageappropriate group leadership skills, membership issues, and professional and ethical group conduct. Class members will participate in a group as members and as co-leaders. Students will study and practice basic communications skills to improve their listening and verbal skills in a group. Prerequisites: HSER 1001, HSER 1002, HSER 1004 passed with at least a "C" grade and placement into ENGL 1110 orcompletion of ENGL 0900 or ESOL 0051. Prerequisite/Corequisite: HSER 1003.
