3.00 credits (3.00 lec) This course will present the background and purpose of "homeland security," including an historical perspectiveof federal and state agencies that lead up to the current state and the development of the Department of Homeland Security. Students will examine the parts of the department, how they interrelate, and their purpose in responding to both natural and man-made disasters. Students will assess the role of Homeland Security in protecting the country from threats both within and without its borders. Prerequisite: Placement into READ 1300 or completion of READ 0200 or ESOL 0052; placement into ENGL 1110 or completion of ENGL 0900 or ESOL 0051.
