3.00 credits (2.00 lec/1.00 lab) This course covers advanced gemological studies and identification skills using instruments including the microscope, polariscope and refractometer. It examines treatments and enhancements, laser drilling and fracture filling, and assesses durability risks in various bench operations. (Normal visual acuity and color perception are necessary.) Prerequisites: JLRY 1810 or instructor approval; placement into READ 0200 or placement into ESOL 0052 or completion of READ 0100 or ESOL 0042 with faculty recommendation into ESOL 0052.
