3.00 credits (3.00 lec) This course introduces the craft of news writing and reporting. Students will focus on traditional news values; the basic news article; investigative and feature reporting; hard and soft leads; sources, interviewing techniques and background research, including use of the Internet; broadcast journalism and electronic news gathering; and media ethics and the law, with emphasis on the First Amendment. Prerequisite: ENGL 1110.
