3.00 credits (3.00 lec) This course uses a sociological perspective to examine the processes of rule-making and rule-breaking. It includes a survey of theories explaining deviance, and the application of these theories to a number of issues often defined as deviance: crime, juvenile delinquency and gangs, mental illness, and life-style variation, among others. Fulfills MnTC Goal Areas 5 and 7. Prerequisites: Placement into READ 0200 or placement into ESOL 0052 or completion of READ 0100 or ESOL 0042 with faculty recommendation into ESOL 0052.
