3.00 credits (3.00 lec) This course focuses on introductory public-speaking concepts and skills. Students will study the process of formal speaking, with an emphasis on comfortable and competent delivery of speeches; learn how to overcome anxiety, choose a topic, organize and outline speeches, and critically analyze speech-making choices; and demonstrate effective presentation techniques by delivering informative, persuasive, and impromptu speeches. Fulfills MnTC Goal Area 1. Prerequisites: Placement into READ 0200 or placement into ESOL 0052 or completion of READ 0100 or ESOL 0042 with faculty recommendation into ESOL 0052; placement into ENGL 1110 or completion of ENGL 0900 or ESOL 0051.
