This course teaches students how to maintain the physical plant of a building and its immediate surroundings. Students will learn to check and maintain all tools, equipment, and machinery associated with building maintenance. They will apply small carpentry duties such as caulking doors and windows, cleaning metal surfaces, and installing or repairing moldings. They will learn to erect scaffolding; install, repair, and refinish doors; rebuild stairs and steps; repair and replace door locksets; repair roofs, gutters, and down spouts; hang, replace, and repair wallboard, and repair and replace windows. The course also covers cleaning exterior and interior walls, painting or refinishing wood surfaces, furniture repair, repair and replacement of electrical plugs on appliances, proper adjustment of gas pilot lights, replacement and repair of wall outlets and switches, and other duties needed to maintain a building's physical plant. Prerequisite: Students must have completed at least 9 credits in the Construction Technology core subjects with a minimal grade of 3.0
