This course introduces various types of sprinklers used in the fi re protecti on industry and identi fi es and explains fusing elements, sprinkler orientati on, spray patt erns, and fi nishes of various sprinklers. It identi fi es and explains standard sprinklers and the diff erences in water distributi on patt erns, the locati on, area of coverage, spacing, and positi oning requirements. The limitati ons of special sprinklers along with electrical safety are discussed. The various types of valves used in the industry and their applicati ons as well as maintenance and installati on are presented. Wet fi re sprinkler systems and dry-pipe systems are both explained. This is a four credit hour course. Prerequisite: CT 164P
