This course is for students who are majoring in one of the following: elementary educati on, secondary educati on, special educati on, or bilingual educati on. All students, including special educati on majors, are to be placed in regular classrooms. The course requires thirty (30) hours of observati on in the classroom. Students will observe many aspects of teaching including lesson planning, instructi onal strategies, evaluati on and grading, classroom management, and professional ethics. Also, the students will extend their knowledge of teaching through various readings, teaching a lesson, and keeping a daily journal. The intent of the course is to give structure to the observati ons and prepare students for the courses to come, in which these aspects of teaching will be covered in depth. This is a three credit hour course.
