This course will address professional practi ce issues that will assist learners in preparing for the transiti on from practi cal nursing student to Licensed Practi cal Nurse. Discussion of the role of the practi cal nurse in relati on to other members of the health care team will foster an understanding of the independent and interdependent functi ons of the practi cal nurse. Collaborati on, advocacy, and partnership are concepts criti cal to the role of the practi cal nurse, caring for persons and focusing on the legal, ethical, and philosophical bases for practi ce. The PN role, interdisciplinary team, principles of nursing management, delegati on, reporti ng and documenti ng are discussed. Also included in this course are content and experiences designed to help students prepare for the NCLEX-PN. Content and applicati on opportuniti es based on group NCLEX-PN preparati on needs (identi fi ed by group performance on ATI NCLEX-PN Predictor Assessment) will be provided. Students will also be directed to develop and implement with guidance an individual plan for NCLEX-PN preparati on. This is a two credit hour course.
