In this course students will be introduced to fundamentals of radiological control and waste handling. Coverage includes the fundamentals of radioacti vity and radioacti ve decay. Characteristi cs of alpha, beta and gamma radiati on are introduced, using equati ons of radioacti ve decay; identi fying alpha, beta, positron decay, and electron capture. Diff erences between natural and arti fi cial radioacti vity and unstable fi ssion products will also be taught. The elements of the Chart of Nuclides, half life, specifi c acti vity, and units are also introduced. This is a three credit hour course. Prerequisites: RW 113
