Biology 211 is the first in a year-long sequence introducing fundamental science processes and major concepts of contemporary biology. It serves largely as a platform for students majoring in life science, natural resources studies or pre-professional programs such as pre-medicine, pre-veterinary, physical therapy, etc. It also meets science general education requirements at most upper level colleges and universities. This course helps students develop skills basic to science investigation, abilities using standard lab equipment, concepts essential for an understanding of modern biology, and an awareness of roles and relationships between science and the rest of society. BI 211 emphasizes an inquiry into fundamental properties of life, cell structure and function, biological energy transformations, and cell life cycles. Students explore prokaryotic and fungal diversity. Prerequisites: High school biology and chemistry or instructor approval. MTH 95 or equivalent. Corequisite: BI 211 with BI 211L. FALL
