Allowable Times for Credit: 1.00 Maximum Credits Allowed: ACH: 117.60-141.60 Lab: 4.00- Credits: 6.00- Contact Hrs: 8.00- Lecture: 4.00- Prerequisite: Basic EMT License. The Emergency Medical Technician-Specialist course focuses on the knowledge and skills necessary to provide limited advanced life support in the pre-hospital setting. The course will emphasize techniques in advanced airway management, intravenous fluid therapy, patient assessment, legal concerns, medical control authority, respiratory system and the pathology of shock. Upon successful completion of both the written and practical components, students will be eligible to take the Michigan Department of Public Health, Division of E.M.S., E.M.T.-Specialist licensure exam.
