Emphasis is placed on the influence of the context of their initial immigration to the U.S. as well as on a variety of ongoing historical, social, political, and economic factors that ultimately influenced the African-American family's quality of life in such areas as, for example, social welfare, access to housing, education, legal rights, and employment.
