1 credit. 1 hour. (Lecture 1 hour.) This course will examine the use and abuse of alcohol and drugs among older people. This includes a focus on the social forces impacting the older adult in society, pertinent demographics, special considerations in diagnosis and treatment, and the proper use of prescription drugs. This course is designed for students and in-service professionals working in the fields of aging, mental health or substance abuse. It is believed that mutual participation will enrich the classroom experience through valuable sharing from the perspective of different service provides.
