3 credits. 4 hours. (Lecture 2 hours. Laboratory 2 hours.) Prerequisites: MATH 105, 130, or 150. Introduction to the care and use of optical surveying instruments; Transits, Total Stations and Auto Levels. Use of cloth tapes, steel tapes and electronic distance machines. Reduction of slope measurements to horizontal and vertical components. Measurement, field data reduction and adjustment of a closed traverse. Horizontal and Vertical curves, earthwork, and coordinates. Extensive field work, field notes and electronic data collection. Introduction to systematic and random errors.
