4 credits. 4 hours. (Lecture 4 hours.) Prerequisite: MATH 40 or equivalent score on placement exam. Review of order of operations, scientific notation, rounding and significant digits. Review of basic area and volume formulas with applications to more general shapes. Quadratic and linear functions including piecewise definitions. Distance formula, midpoint formula, equations of circles. Map reading, contours and elevation. Classification of angles and triangles. Right triangle trigonometry. Conversions between radians and degrees/minutes/seconds and decimal degrees. Law of sines, law of cosines, arc length, vectors, and bearing. For all topics there will be an emphasis on applications appropriate to the study of land surveying.
