3 credits. 3 hours. (Lecture 3 hours.) Prerequisite: ENGL 30 or appropriate test score. This course will prepare students to develop opportunities for partnership among families, schools, and communities. The course provides an in-depth study of the principles of parenting and family relationships as well as the skills necessary to work with the family unit. The importance of the teachers role in the school and community as applied to working with families of young children and the community is emphasized. This course follows the guidelines of Kansas and Missouri Core Competencies for Early Care and Education Professionals and the National Association of the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) standards.
