This course is a continuation of MELT1620 and includes instruction regarding safe blood component therapy and hemolytic disease of the newborn. Topics include other blood group systems, donation, blood components, hemolytic disease of the newborn, and transfusion practices. Other common group systems are recognized. Antibody screening and identification are also performed. This course is the second of two classes that prepares a learner to work in a transfusion laboratory/department. Prerequisite: MELT1620.
