This course is designed specifically as a first course for computer science students and is required by programs in the Computer Division at the college. The goal of the course is to achieve computer fluency not just literacy. The course introduces students to the skill sets, career paths, and certifications for those entering a computer career with emphasis on personal and professional development. Students are prepared for a future in the information age. An overview is provided of the wide range of topics that an entry level Information Technology (IT) candidate is expected to know in preparation to meet the needs of employers and industry. The course assists students in effectively utilizing their leased laptops, the Internet, email, and college online courses. Students learn the basics of computer hardware, the Windows operating system, and Microsoft Office applications intended to improve their success in college and on the job. Students receive a USB drive, charged as a course fee on their tuition statement, to store an electronic lab manual. Prerequisite: Basic computer skills are expected.
