General Education Attributes. 4, 8 This course will present major themes and characters of American comedy as seen in performance. The study begins with the roots of comedy as a reflection of American society and day-to-day life in the performances of traveling storytellers and the parodies of vaudeville and minstrel shows. The course will survey comic dramas, early comedy, television situation comedy and contemporary comic performances.
