Prerequisite: Acceptance to the Occupational Therapy Assistant Program. This initial course provides an overview of occupational therapy including the history, philosophy, values, ethics and beliefs which form the foundations of the profession. The role of occupational therapy in various healthcare settings and the role of the OTA and the OTR will be introduced. The essentials of success in the OTA program will be investigated including basic computer competence, utilization of media and learning resources, and success strategies for learning. The processes of self examination, cooperation, and teambuilding for enhancing learning will be explored. Two lecture hours a week. Credit: Two semester hours.
