Ensemble This course introduces students to traditional hand drumming techniques and multi-part rhythm structures from Guinea, Senegal, Ivory Coast and Mali. Students will learn to play in an ensemble to improvise and to care for and tune a drum. They will have the opportunity to perform in the community. In addition they will develop an understanding of the role of this art form in traditional West African cultures.Students need to have either a djembe, ashiko or conga drum. (Purchase or rental available locally.)
