3 Credits This course emphasizes principles of clear written communication for informational, analytical, and persuasive purposes. The course stresses both the writing process and the writing situation consisting of subject, audience, and purpose. By learning to assess communication needs, students develop problem-solving and critical thinking skills and then use these skills to guide the writing process in a variety of communication forms. Students learn to gather and select information and to choose organizing and formatting strategies that result in clear written documents. Class activities include writing in a computerized writing lab; therefore, keyboarding skills are required. Prerequisite: CPT117 or equivalent or demonstrated keyboarding skills.
