5 Credits (3-0-6) This course is an introduction to the field of surgical technology as a career. Emphasis is on the role of the surgical technologist, principles of asepsis, principles of patient care, surgical procedures, operative techniques, blood-borne pathogens, safety, pharmacology, and surgical instrumentation. Upon completion, the student should be able to demonstrate practical application of the basic procedures and skills of the surgical technologist. Prerequisite: Admission to the Surgical Operating Room Technology Program and HPS 105 and BIO 201.
