5 Credits (3-0-2) This course presents concepts of professional nursing practice in the perioperative care environment and includes participation in the preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative phases of the surgical experience. The course is designed to facilitate knowledge of the anatomical or physiological alteration evident in pathological conditions requiring surgical intervention. The practice of aseptic technique and application of the nursing process to care of the surgical patient are integral components of this course. Prerequisite: Admission to program.
