The study of theory, harmony, and practice of Western music from the 17th century to the present, including review of music fundamentals, triad construction and inversions, voice leading, and harmonic structure. Part writing and ear training will be in conjunction with MUS 2411. This course is a continuation of Music Theory II. Triads and seventh chords, non-harmonic tones, and modulations to closely related keys are studied. Secondary functions will be introduced and studied as well as formal analysis of binary and ternary forms. The student will harmonize melodies and realize figured basses. Prerequisite: Grade of "C" or better in MUS 1423 or consent of instructor. Corequisite: MUS 2411.
