Pre-requisites: Current State or National Registry EMT-B and CPR Co-requisite: EMS 170 Clinical and Field Internship Prepares the student for initial Virginia ALS certification and for Virginia and National Registry Intermediate and/or Paramedic certification. Includes the theory and application of the following: foundations, human systems, pharmacology, overview of shock, venous access, airway management, patient assessment, respiratory emergencies, allergic reaction, and assessment based management. Conforms to the 1998 Department of Transportation Curriculum for EMT-Intermediate /Paramedics and the State of Virginia EMT-Enhanced Curriculum. Lecture 3 hours. Laboratory 2 hours. Total: 5 hours per week.
